1. BCEA earnings threshold increase
On the 7th March 2025, the Minister of Employment and Labour issued a notice via Gazette No. 52232 that increases the BCEA (Basic Conditions of Employment Act) earnings threshold from R254 371.67 pa to R261 748.45 pa with effect from 1 April 2025.

2. 2025 national minimum wage announced
The new minimum wage is set at R28.79 per ordinary hour worked, reflecting an 4.4% increase from the 2024 minimum wage of R27.58. This will come into effect on March 1, 2025. 4. Skills development: Reminder 30 April deadline
The Skills Development Levy (SDL) is a levy imposed to encourage learning and development in South Africa and is determined by an employer’s salary bill. The funds are intended to be used to develop and improve employee skills. Payment towards the levy grant scheme is legislated in terms of the Skills Development Levies Act, 1999. Under this act, every employer in South Africa who is registered with SARS for PAYE and has an annual payroll in excess of R500,000, must register with SARS to pay the Skills Development Levy (SDL). This is levied at 1% of the total amount of remuneration (less any specific exclusions) paid to employees.

6. Income tax number: We can assist you with the registration of your employees for income tax purposes, managing the process from start to finish. Our consultants will obtain the employee’s personal information from your payroll administrator and complete the necessary applications. The turnaround time for this process is 24 hours and the cost per application is R150 plus VAT. A volume discount will be negotiated in cases where there are more than 20 applications at a time.
